The interface between soil and rock has many names: bedrock topography, depth of cover, weathered layer thickness, or regolith thickness. Regarless of what it is called, geological risk in the feasibility and budgeting phase often depends on one’s knowledge of this interface.
The vast majority of geological materials feature a strong geophysical contrast between sediments and bedrock. We thus can track this interface and build a 3D model with quantified precision using our AI-based algorithms.
Extensive pilot tests show that the accuracy of such bedrock topography estimates can be as good as 20 percent (normalized by sediment thickness) depending on the number of available drillings to integrate. For early phase investigations, as little as one borehole per square kilometre is sufficient to provide a regional model.
