Volumetric Analysis – Machine learning making life easier for infrastructure project planners

Volumetric analysis is a machine learning methodology that EMerald Geomodelling uses to create 3D geological models of different types of materials. It is based on inputs from both airborne geoscanning as well as more traditional geotechnical investigations. This method computes the probability of each material occurring at any given location and depth, which provides important insights for project planners.

Investigations of subsurface site conditions are a crucial part of tunnel design, but the industry is still very reliant on traditional methods to get the information needed. With significant technological advances and a need to reduce carbon footprints from construction, it’s surely time for a change.
